Val says of Lani’s CD,
“I have counted it an extreme privilege and honor to participate in ministry with the Clark family. I first met the Clark family- Leilani, her brother, Tim, her mother, Victoria and her father, Dan Clark in 1997, when ‘Lani’ was only 10 years old. Even at that young age, Leilani had an incredibly mature and beautiful voice. Leilani appeared on the national radio broadcast of “A Prairie Home Companion” at the age of 12 and took first place in their “Talent from Towns Under Two Thousand” contest. For her closing song, she sang a song that Dan, Donald Johns (our producer) and I had collaborated in writting entitled, “I’m Amazed”. Lani’s angelic voice and pure spirit captured the hearts of almost 2 million listeners and inspired the show’s host to have her back on the show the following year, where she once again sang one of our collaborated songs entitled, “Keeper of My Heart” (which has been recorded on both of our CD’s) . Her appearance on national radio has given Lani many more singing opportunities in which she shares her love for the Lord and her devotion to use her talent for His glory.
“Leilani’s father, Dan worked as a musician/arranger at Starlight studios in Lake City, FL, where I was privileged to record two albums. With similar tastes in music as well as goals for ministry, it didn’t take long to realize that the Lord had orchestrated our partnership in songwriting. Over the next several years, before the Lord took Dan to heaven in Sept of 06, we collaborated in writing songs that were recorded on either my, Lani’s, or both of our cd’s.
“Dan was not only a talented songwritier, but was also an amazing musician, singer and arranger. I am often amazed when I reflect on what a blessing it has been to me that the Lord allowed me the opportunity to work with such a gifted musician. And as if that wasn’t enough, to have his equally talented daughter, Leilani, record songs that I collaborated in writing with her father, has been a blessing beyond what ‘I could ever ask or even think’ (Eph 3:20-21) God is so good! Dan had only finished the instrumentation for 8 of the 12 songs on Leilani’s CD, “We Will Never Say Goodbye”, when the Lord suddenly took him home in a drowning accident. Though Dan’s passing was heart-breaking and tragic, the words of the songs and other events surrounding Dan’s homegoing and the recording of this album have been a constant reminder to those of us who still miss Dan greatly, that God is in complete control of every event of our lives. We know that God is and will continue to use this loss for good and for His honor and glory, especially through the rich musical legacy that Dan left to us through Leilani’s album. It is my prayer that as listeners hear these songs and consider the messages contained in them, that they will be encouraged to press on in their walk with the Lord, even when hope and strength seem to be running out. God’s promises never fail and in His time, He works everything for good to those that love Him. (Rom 8:28)”
