“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you”. (1 Peter 5:7)
God invites us to cast our care upon him. It seems not to be a stretch that this would also include our expectations. I have observed that unmet, or unrealistic expectations can wreak havoc on relationships as well as on our own views of life and God. How freeing it is when we look to the Lord to move on our behalf when we are waiting for answers to prayer, or when we are tempted to think it’s our job to cause our spouses, or others to live up to what we think would make us happy, or to try to orchestrate life’s circumstances to get things done on our time frame. How reassuring when we remember that God cares for us and can accomplish everything that concerns us. He doesn’t need our help, and more often than not, we can get in his way by trying to manipulate things in order to produce the desired outcome. May we offer our cares and expectations to the One who knows, cares, and is able to do exceeding abundantly above all we can ask, or even think according to His power, not ours.
“My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.” (Ps 62:5)
