Spiritual Fitness Matters

Most people have no trouble understanding the need for athletes to train vigorously, to be careful about their diet, and to take care in most every area of their lives so that they can face the challenges involved with their particular sport. But when it comes to the challenges of faith and the demands of Christian living in this fallen world, some fall by the wayside when challenges come, not having given diligence to the daily spiritual training we are called to. When trials come, rather than blaming God or turning to the unsatisfying fixes of this world, may we have the wisdom and grace to allow trouble to strengthen our faith and to deepen our relationship with God. We are told to”exercise ourselves unto godliness”, to ” meditate day and night in the law of the Lord” and to “run with patience the race that is set before us”, knowing that our “momentary light affliction is working for us an eternal weight of glory”.
“Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go; keep her, for she is thy life.” (Prov 4:13)
